Addicted to Double Cleansing!

ub
According to Una Brennan, infamous facialist, deep cleansing is the foundation of good skin. However the double cleansing method is the cornerstone of the perfect skin care regime – promoting healthy, balanced and properly cleansed skin.I’ll be honest, for me cleansing has mostly been about taking make-up off.  In the last year or so I have developed a new obsession with cleansing – probably due to all the lectures from facialists. Now I cleanse to treat and boost my skin. For me, a little change to my cleansing routine was all it took to normalise my skin and make it look 10 times better. I’m never going back to face wipes!
I tend to try out lots of new products and skincare routines – what suits me one month might not suit me the next.  After all, our skins needs change depending on the time of year, hormones, stress etc.,  so when it comes to skin care I just roll with it.  Needless to say I don’t really have any brand loyalty but I do have favourites.
That being said if Una Brennan told me that dunking my face in a vat of Heinz spaghetti would work wonders on my mug I’d probably give it a try. The woman is a genius and as so many have said, the industry’s best kept secret.
Unfortunately I’m not in a position to be lining up for Ms. Brennans monthly facials. Believe me, I wish I were. That leaves me with the DIY version – her Super Facialist range for Boots. Now I’m under no illusions that she uses these products on clients. She may, she may not. Either way I’m confident she wouldn’t put her name to any product that didn’t meet her standards.  The woman has integrity. So without much further ado…
My double cleanse routine:
Step 1: Rose-Hydrate Miracle Makeover Facial Oil (€17.99/£14.99)

If like me the words face and oil combined strike up a feeling of spot/breakout related paranoia let me put your mind at ease. Certain oil based products work with every skin type, even the spot prone like myself. This oil deeply penetrates loosening oils that clog the skin. It calms and hydrates sensitive skin and the glycerin draws water into the outer layer keeping the skin supple. This product feels like a treat and if you’re a regular reader of my blog then you know that this is one of my favourite qualities in a beauty product. It smells clean and natural with a hint of rose but with no syntactic scent (pet peeve of mine). I pump some oil into my hands, rub them together until they’re warm and massage into my face and neck in circular motions. I use a hot muslin cloth to remove the oil and proceed to step two.

Step 2: Rose Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser (€9.59/£7.99)

This is a creamy glycerin based cleanser. It contains Carnuba and Candilila waxes which breakdown impurities and remove makeup. There was no tightness of dryness after use thanks to the addition of Cocoa and Shea butters – I always wonder if these butters will clog my pores but they never have, yet. The cleanser is also infused with White Willow Extract which is known to enhance cell turn over.
I apply the cleanser using my fingertips in circular movements. I then rinse with luke warm water and pat dry. It smells delicately of rose and geranium oils.
I should point out that the range is free from mineral oils/petrochemicals, animal ingredients and synthetic colours. They’re also animal friendly.
Results:
My skin is calm, cool and refreshed. It also feels treated. You still get that feeling of cleaness, no residue either, without any dryness of tightness. After a few weeks of use I am happy to report no breakouts, no flaking and overall less redness in my sensitive areas (I’m not sure if this one is a happy coincidence but it doesn’t happen too often!).
Bottom Line:
Love! The routine suits me perfectly at the moment. If I could describe the duo in one word it would be delicate.  I highly recommend.
Super Facialist is available from Boots, at boots.com and SuperFacialist.co.uk.
Am I the only one particular about cleansing? Anyone tried the range?
