Yes, another addiction. Murad’s Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask was recommended for my skin type by a facialist at my last visit to Therapie. Let me start by saying that this mask is said to suit most skin types but it is not one of those designed to be deeply nourishing. If you’re looking for a treatment like that then let me straight off the bat that this isn’t for you. If however you are in need of an exfoliation, want bright, clear skin and some tingly freshness without scrubby-scrubs than keep reading.
First of all, a little about my skin. At the moment it is normal with both dry areas and oily areas. My chin is prone to hormonal breakouts and can be sensitive but my forehead and cheeks are dry. My main skin concerns are blocked pores, hydration and early signs of ageing. Ah what it must be like to have nice skin. I can keep dreaming!
How it works
The mask works on all skin types skin by dissolving tired cells to reveal the bright, fresh, youthful-looking skin underneath. Without scrubbing. It contains
- Pomegranate Extract and Ginko Bilbo Extract – a powerful antioxidants to defend your skin from free radical damage.
- Natural Fruit Enzymes and AHA’s – Intensely exfoliates trapped impurities and dead skin cells.
- Sodium PCA – Restores essential moisture to soften, recondition and rehydrate your skin.
The box comes with six sachets – one per treatment. I found that to be far too much product for one application. Instead I use half and wrap the rest up in tinfoil for the following week. I had read that treatments are cumulative so I committed to being consistent with treatments. According to the box you should apply once of twice a week. I applied the mask once a week, avoiding my eye area, put my feet up for 10 minutes and then washed it off with my skincare sponge and warm water (muslin would also be great).
Results
I have been using the mask for 6 weeks now and have concluded that it is the bees knees for the following reasons:
- bye bye dead, dry skin
- Clears out gunk from pores (ick)
- My skin looks taught (not dry/tight) and has more of a glow after mask
- No irritation at all – rather surprised by this
- No stinging or redness (I read that others had some stinging but I had none at all)
- No breakouts – it actually helps clear them
- It helped my skin heal faster – after spots. It takes the flakey, dry bits away without redness
- Didn’t dry my skin
- My pores look smaller for a few days after application
- No oil attack the following day
- Smells fresh and leaves our skin with a clean tingle
- Prepped skin for next stage of skincare routine – products absorbed better
- Make-up sat so much better because of the clear base
- Saw results after one treatment – my skin was clear and bright
I should point out that I use this treatment as part of a skincare regime (more on that later). I use this mask on a Monday and on a Thursday I like to treat myself to a moisture infusing mask to plump and perk my skin up.
What would I change?
The packaging. Sachets are messy. Then again I was supposed to use the whole pouch each time. This probably has something to do with preserving active ingredients or something.
Value for money/Where to buy
At €30 / £25.00 for six sachets it’s a fairly good deal for the
results I get. The sachets may look like samples but they are quite
large and contain a healthy amount of product as I mentioned earlier. I
like to think of each application as a mini-facial and therefore it’s
saving me a fortune :) Murad is available at nationwide (including the one on Dublin’s Molesworth Street). You can’t
buy Murad products in the shops (to the best of my knowledge) but you

The last word
