How to Make French Toast - French Toast Recipes, Tips to Prepare French Toast
Easy to make and extremely tasty to have, French toasts are the perfect breakfast dishes to kick-start your morning. Regarded as a classic breakfast favorite in most parts of the world including the US, Canada, England and Australia, French toasts can be made both as a sweet dish as well a savory breakfast item. As such, this popular breakfast item is named differently in different parts of the world. For example; in England, French toast is also known as “eggy bread” while in French-speaking Canada, it is referred to as “pain doré” meaning “golden bread”. Some of the common ingredients used for preparing different types of French toasts include milk, cinnamon, sugar, butter and fruits. Read on to find some easy tips to prepare French toast for your breakfast.
French Toast Recipes:
Recipe 1: Basic French Toast Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 Eggs
- 6 slices of thick sliced white bread
- 2 ½ teaspoons of Butter
- 1 cup Milk
- Powdered Sugar (to taste)
- ½ teaspoon Cinnamon powder
Method:
- In a mixing bowl, whip together the eggs and milk until a uniform mixture is obtained. Ensure that the bowl is big enough to fit the bread slices.
- Next, in a non-stick frying pan kept over a medium high flame, melt the butter completely. Spread the melted butter all over the pan to lightly coat the pan base.
- Cut the bread slices into triangular shapes or any shape according to your preference.
- Gently, coat the bread slices with the egg-milk mixture by dipping it in the mixing bowl one at a time. Make sure that the pieces are coated on both the sides.
- Now, gently place the coated bread slices on the frying pan and fry it for sometime or until a golden brown color is attained.
- French Toasts are best when served hot. Hence, once fried, transfer the slices on the serving plate and sprinkle some of the powdered sugar and cinnamon over the dish. You can also add a little butter to add to the flavor of the dish.
Recipe 2: Panettone French toast served with Mixed Berries
Ingredients:
- 2 Eggs
- 2 slices of Panettone or Sweet Bread Loaf
- ½ cup Milk
- 1 ½ tablespoon Castor Sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons Icing Sugar
- 1/3 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 30 grams Unsalted Butter
- Frozen Mixed Berries
- Fresh Yoghurt or thick Cream
Method:
- In a shallow mixing bowl, add together the eggs, sugar, milk and cream and whip together to obtain affine mixture. Add the vanilla extract to this mixture and then slowly dip the bread slices to coat it evenly on both the sides.
- It is advisable to allow the panettone or bread slices to leave in the mixing bowl for a few minutes so that the egg mixture gets soaked up in the pieces.
- Next, in a blender, place the berries, icing sugar and a little water (1/2 tablespoon) and blend to get a smooth paste. To this, add a few fresh berries and then place the mixture aside.
- In a non-stick frying pan, heat the butter and then gently fry the coated slices over a medium flame.
- Wait till one side of the panettone slice is fried completely and then turn to the other side until a golden brown color is obtained.
- Serve hot by dusting with the icing sugar and topping the slides with the berry paste.
